For some strange reason, I never really knew that writing was something I might enjoy. Unlike others, I found my niche once my children became teenagers. I kept a journal, and sometimes I would read it over. I could not believe how I enjoyed going over my little stories of the goings on of the days.
That is when I realized I should pursue my writing endeavours. I enrolled immediately in a correspondence class for freelance writing. Then suddenly, I found myself with another career sitting at my doorstep. Three needy foster children required a home, and some very strict disciplinary care. There went my writing time for some years. Now, even though I still foster and work at a part-time job, I have learned to make time for a very necessary part of my life, which is writing.
I have been published in an area newspaper, writing mostly fiction for contests. One letter to the editor on the topic of an outdoor arena in our neighbourhood was published. I wrote for a newspaper column for a brief period, just filling in for another writer while she was away on sick leave. Writers Online Workshops (several), Gotham Writers Workshop, and Banff School of Writing have helped tremendously. In addition, I have been a writer on FanStory.com since 2006.
I know writing for Suite 101 can only improve my skills, and hopefully add to my credentials as a conscientious and vibrant writer. I take writing, particularly writing well, very seriously.
